US Election Gridlock Sent Stock Higher

STATE OF THE MARKETS

US election has come to a gridlock on a divided senate. Democrats hope to take control of the senate was crushed when Republican Senator Susan Collins won by a surprise in Maine, leading to a divided congress that could see little or no change to business regulatory environment. The Dow Jones rose 1.34% to end at 27,847.66 points, while the S&P closed 2.20% higher at 3,443.44 points with health care, consumer and technology leading the sectors. Fall in bond prices leading to demand as yield rise to 0.90% for the 10Y notes.

Crude continue to climb for three days to close higher around $39.15 when reports of a lower inventory and jump in the stock markets boost appetite for riskier assets. In the FX space, investors were seen buying Chinese Yuan as the odds for a Democratic President keep rising at the expense of the Greenback that suffer a drop after initially rising on safe haven demand.

Short and medium-term accounts had ditched the GBP on the UK lockdowns and a prospect of additional stimulus from BoE. Long term accounts still see flight to safety as Yen continue to lead with Swiss return to the green.
